Top sights

The 120-year-old cast-iron pavilion sits on a rocky promontory, offering a sweeping view over the city with the distinctive tower of Münster St. Nikolaus Church and Lake Überlingen. The largest Gothic church on Lake Constance is an important landmark. Inside, the minster houses valuable artwork, most notably the high altar carved by Jörg Zürn from 1613 to 1666.

The landing stage, used as a reception room in the 19th century, is still the most frequented place in the city today. In the past, it was not tourists who gathered here, but rather merchants, craftsmen, ferry workers, and many others. Especially sailboats and rowboats docked with a variety of goods at the quays. Since 2000, the fountain "Der Bodenseereiter" (The Lake Constance Rider) has adorned the square.

Also located at the landing stage is the Greth. The former imperial city granary is now used as a market hall with retail shops, restaurants, and a cinema. From the Greth directly to the promenade – the blooming lakeside invites you to a leisurely stroll on warm sunny days.

Culture & Events

For a true insight into Überlingen's culture, one can attend the traditional Schwedenprozession (Sweden Procession). On the second Sunday of May and July, the people of Überlingen parade through the streets in historically splendid attire. This tradition dates back to the city's double victory over the Swedes, who besieged the city during the Thirty Years' War.

The city museum also offers a glimpse behind the walls. It houses Germany's largest collection of historical dollhouses, artworks from the Lake Constance region, and evidence of the city's and region's history. In addition, special exhibitions on various topics are regularly held.

Culinary Delights

True culinary delights and delicacies await in Überlingen. From traditional and regional Baden-Alemannic cuisine to international specialties, the restaurants and country inns have much to offer. Top chefs ensure that every guest leaves with a smile and a full stomach. Like in many other places around Lake Constance, viticulture also has a long tradition in Überlingen. The best way to enjoy a glass of wine is with fresh fish or game dishes.
