Many buildings from antiquity have been preserved in Trier and are listed as Roman monuments as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In addition to the landmark of the city, the Porta Nigra, there is an amphitheater, the Imperial Baths, the Constantine Basilica and other buildings. In addition to the Romanesque cathedral, the early Gothic Church and many other historic buildings from almost all eras up to the 21st century are impressive.

The cultural life of Karl-Marx's birthplace is home to several museums, theatres, choirs and orchestras. Many festivals, summer festivals and concerts take place every year.
