Salzburg
Top attractions
Hohensalzburg Fortress towers above the rooftops of the baroque city and has survived a lot over the years. The fortress was built in 1077 and was given its current appearance around 1500. Situated so high up, it protected against enemies and could never be taken. Today, it is above all the town's landmark, contributes to the town's panorama and attracts many visitors. In the well-kept garden of Hellbrunn Palace, you will be amazed by the water features. Mirabell Palace has the most beautiful garden in Salzburg and is now used for many events such as weddings, conferences and honours. The Getreidegasse is probably one of the most beautiful streets in Salzburg. The old, well-preserved houses characterise the cityscape and are now home to shops. Arcades adorn the ‘Durchhäuser’ and have become shopping arcades and galleries. The centrepiece is the cathedral, a real treasure trove when you find out what the cathedral contains, for example the bronze baptismal font in which Wolfgang A. Mozart and Joseph Mohr were baptised in. Squares such as the ‘Alter Markt’ invite visitors to linger and marvel at the statues, which are usually found in large squares.
Culture & Events
Mozart's birthplace, located in the famous Getreidegasse, is well worth a visit for every visitor. Today it houses a museum that gives you an insight into Mozart's life. Many places in the city are sights and tourist attractions, but are also very important for culture, as they contribute to the way Salzburgers are today.
First and foremost among the events is the Salzburg Festival, followed by several major events that attract thousands of people to the city with art, culture and music.
Culinary delights
Tradition is very important in Salzburg and so breweries and traditional inns are run with pride and diligence to convince everyone of their skills and products.
