Top attractions
The gardens of Trautmansdorff Castle are famous beyond the borders of the country. Apart from the fact that Baroness Elisabeth of Austria resided in the palace, the botanical gardens are among the most beautiful gardens in the world. In 2013, they were crowned International Garden of the Year.
The undisputed landmark of the city is the Kurhaus on the Passer Promenade. With its splendid Art Nouveau hall, it is now the venue for concerts, conferences and other festivities. It is also a member of the ‘historic event centres’ (HCCE-Historic Conference Centres of Europe).
When listing Merano's sights, the 800-year-old shopping streets - the Merano arcades - should not be missed. The Laubengasse consists of two rows of houses with façades from different stylistic periods, which are decorated with ornamental bay windows and archways. Today, the arcades are home to everything from textile and food shops to specialised stores, coffee houses and restaurants.

Culture & Events
The small town of Merano is known throughout Europe as a health resort. The year-round mild climate in particular is the basis for a distinctive attitude to life in the climatic health resort. The charm of the spa and garden town is complemented by the Merano Thermal Baths and Trauttmansdorff Castle.
Whether classical or modern, music has always been anchored in Merano's culture. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Kurch Orchestra was described as the best orchestra in the Danube Monarchy. Many songs were composed especially for the Merano orchestra and for South Tyrol. The music archive contains almost 7,400 works.

Culinary specialities
Mediterranean lightness meets South Tyrolean down-to-earthness. First-class Michelin restaurants, traditional inns and fine wines from Merano's wineries make for a good mix of gastronomic offerings. The typical Alpine-Mediterranean cuisine is a combination of Austrian classics with Italian influences.
Many event highlights in Merano/Meran are centred around culinary delights. During the Gastronomy Weeks, participating members of the Merano Tourist Board cook up dishes on the respective themes. Various tastings, wine tastings and cookery demonstrations also take place during the wine festivals.
