The picturesque old town with its spacious squares and narrow streets is both interesting and visually captivating. These streets tell fascinating stories from Radolfzell's founding to modern times. Especially noteworthy is the Radolfzell Minster with its 82-meter-high tower, a focal point of the city. On selected days, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view of the old town from the Minster tower.
Located in the Stadtgarten Radolfzell are the Pulver and Höllturm towers. The eastern side of the former city fortifications, from the Pulver to the Höllturm, largely remains in the condition of around 1870.
The Haberhaus, dating back to the 17th century, once served as a mint. This three-story building was constructed in the Baroque style and adorned with St. Andrew's crosses in the 18th century. Additionally, the house was used as a granary where nobles stored their grain. Today, it houses a restaurant.
Culture & Events
From a cultural perspective, Radolfzell has much to offer. In the historic core of the city, one can feel the history step by step. Over the centuries, the city evolved from a fishing and winegrowing village to a renowned place of pilgrimage and ultimately to the center of the Untersee region. Exciting city and themed tours provide interesting insights into Radolfzell.
In May 2015, the Sculpture Symposium took place in the Mettnaupark for the first time. Internationally renowned sculptors worked outdoors on the peninsula on their artworks for a week. Visitors could witness the creative process firsthand and admire the finished sculptures in the park afterward. The artists worked with a variety of materials and techniques, making the experience even more captivating for guests. The symposium is repeated every two to three years.
The Kunsthäuschen (art house) and Villa Bosch regularly host changing and intriguing exhibitions on art and music themes.
Musical entertainment is provided by marketplace concerts, New Year's concerts, lake festivals, and the flagship of the music city—the Summer Academy. From classical to rock, from young to old, there's sure to be a suitable program for everyone.
Cuisine
Culinary enthusiasts will find plenty to satisfy their tastes in Radolfzell. The gastronomic offerings range from cozy cafes to beach bars and bistros to first-class restaurants with magnificent views of the lake. Fresh regional products can be found at the weekly markets on Radolfzell's marketplace, where farmers from the Halbinsel Höri, Reichenau, and Hegau sell their fresh produce twice a week.
Special events for foodies are regularly held in Radolfzell, such as spirit tastings, wild weeks, or the weekly Sunday brunch overlooking Radolfzell's rooftops.
